new comic for a cool project a friend is putting together! weird summer.

paperjamfest:

Paper Jam 2 Exhibitor #19: Mimi Chrzanowski

It’s hard not to love Mimi Chrzanowski’s comics and illustrations. Mimi creates worlds that appear to be filled with childish whimsy and magic, but they frequently hint at more adult themes. Mimi walks that fine line between cute and frantic with aplomb. For its second round Paper Jam is expanding its geographic reach to include Mimi, who is based in Providence, Rhode Island: a region renown for pioneering some of the most exciting comics and graphic arts of recent memory. She is also one of the organizers of the Rhode Island Independent Publishing Expo. It is my hope that this is the start of Paper Jam bringing together not just the New York small press and music scenes, but also exposing New Yorkers to small press artists from around the country.

My mom’s birthday was this past weekend so I made her this. She likes flowers. I hope she likes this drawing because the last time I sent her art when I first moved to Providence almost 3 years ago she called me mad asking “Why did you send me this?!?!” It was a fluorescent abstract screen print, but she saw a guy getting stabbed in it. I guess I had been trying a lot of that type of stuff in my sketchbooks at the time, buuuut I didn’t think it was evident in the print. Hope she doesn’t see this one as biblical with cactus head jesus in front and sympathy for a cute rose devil creeping behind…
